General Election 2024 Voter ID Registration Online: India is all set for the 18th Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled between April 19 and June 4, 2024. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finished compiling the voter list and has temporarily suspended voter ID registrations until the conclusion of the elections. However, it is important to note that the registration process will recommence immediately after the elections come to an end, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate in the democratic process.

For young adults who turned 18 newly, and are not yet on the voter list, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new provision for them to enrol as new voters. In the past, eligibility for voter registration required individuals to be 18 years old by January 1. The process has been updated to allow citizens aged 17 and above to apply in advance for voter ID registration.

Considering specific qualifying dates: April 01, July 01, and October 01, this new approach guarantees that individuals who reach 18 on any of these dates can register to vote and upon successful registration, they will be issued an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). To register as a ‘new voter’ for the future elections, there are online and offline options available:

Online Registration Process:

1. Voter Helpline App: The Election Commission has introduced a dedicated app available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and the ECI website to facilitate voter registration.

2. Website Registration: Utilise the newly launched portal voterportal.eci.gov.in to fill out Form 6 with the necessary documents and a passport-sized photo. Follow these steps:

Visit the official website: voters.eci.gov.in.
Select ‘Fill Form 6’ under ‘New Registrations for General Electors’.
Log in and complete Form 6 with accurate details and attachments.
Verify information before submission and track application status using the reference number.

3. Toll-Free Number 1950: Contact the Voter Helpline at 1950 for assistance with queries, complaints, election information, and online registration.

Offline Registration:

New voters can approach the Booth Level Officer (BLO) in their locality to fill out Form 6 with the required documents.

Documents Required for Registration:

To complete Form 6, individuals need to provide a passport-sized photo, identity proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth. By following these steps, eligible individuals can ensure their participation in the democratic process by registering as new voters for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
