Explained: Bihar votes

Of the 38 districts of Bihar, Patna at 43.7 lakh electors has the highest number of electors, who form 6.54% of the total electorate in the state.

As the state votes in five phases between October 12 and November 5, 6.68 crore voters hold the key to the next government. A profile of the electorate.

* 2,169 voters who have entered themselves as ‘others’

* Of the 38 districts of Bihar, Patna at 43.7 lakh electors has the highest number of electors, who form 6.54% of the total electorate in the state. The top 5 districts—Patna, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani and Saran —together constitute 24% of the total electorate

Voter Sex ratio: 875 women voters for 1,000 male voters

* That’s much lower that the national sex ratio of 918 (as per Census 2011). The district with the highest voter sex ratio is Saharsa with 922 women voters per 1,000 male voters, while Bhojpur has the lowest ratio at 817.

The new voters: 24,13,024 first-time voters or 3.61% of the total electorate.

* Patna has 1.42 lakh first-time voters, the highest among the state’s 38 districts. The state capital is followed by Madhubani, at 1.25 lakh new voters. At 10,271, Sheohar has the smallest number of new voters, followed by Arwal.

* 4.93% of Madhepura’s voters are in the 18-19 age group, the highest among the state’s districts.
