Aaron Pierre cast as John Stewart in HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ series

Pierre secured the role of John Stewart after an extensive casting search, with him and Stephen James emerging as the top contenders in the final stages, as Deadline reported.

Actor Aaron Pierre, known for his role in Rebel Ridge, has been cast as John Stewart in HBO’s highly anticipated series ‘Lanterns’, according to Deadline.

The series is based on DC’s Green Lantern comics and will feature Pierre as the iconic Green Lantern, John Stewart, alongside Kyle Chandler, who is in final talks to portray Hal Jordan.

Pierre secured the role of John Stewart after an extensive casting search, with him and Stephen James emerging as the top contenders in the final stages, as Deadline reported.

Lanterns will follow the story of two intergalactic lawmen, the newly recruited Stewart and veteran Lantern Jordan, as they investigate a murder mystery set in the American heartland.

The eight-episode series will be helmed by Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy, with Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and comic book writer Tom King serving as co-writers and executive producers. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and will also be an executive producer.

Pierre, who currently stars in Rebel Ridge on Netflix, will also voice Mufasa in Barry Jenkins’ upcoming Lion King prequel for Disney. His recent work includes portraying Malcolm X in NatGeo’s Genius: MLK/X and starring in Brother, Foe, and The Underground Railroad.
