Sheezan Khan’s life took an unexpected turn on 24 December last year. After his co-star and former girlfriend Tunisha Sharma committed suicide, he was accused by her mother of allegedly abetting the suicide. He was arrested the next day and was in custody for 70 days. Once he came out on bail, he realised he has been replaced on his TV show Ali Baba. However, Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 came as a ray of hope for the young actor, who said that he really needed the Rohit Shetty-hosted series to gain his confidence back.

Calling his journey on the adventure reality show ‘magical, dangerous and courageous’, Sheezan said that he also got to fulfill his many firsts through it. “It was my first reality show, my first international trip, my first time with such thrilling stunts and my first time with Rohit sir. Just the fact he spoke to me was a big thing for me. It has been such a learning experience on the show,” Sheezan told indianexpress.com.

The actor shared that before he flew to Cape Town for the shoot, he was nervous and scared. He added that he was put into the world all of a sudden from confinement and was still getting used to a normal life. “I really didn’t get much time to prepare. As soon as this came my way, I just took it up. There was pressure and it’s a show that really tests you physically and mentally. I was scared how it will go but as soon as we started rolling, I realised it was just stage fright. Everything just fell in place and it was all fun from then on.”

Having stayed away from his family for two months, we wondered if it was tough to head out alone for another journey. Sheezan shared that his mother and siblings are his strength and backed him completely. “When I was on a video call with them after landing in South Africa, they were literally dancing. They are happy that I am back to work. Due to the time difference, we couldn’t talk much but my mother would stay awake even late to be able to speak to me. I would also drop a text before I went for a stunt as I knew that her prayers would help me in the journey.”

The actor added that Khatron Ke Khiladi has been his favourite show as a kid, and he would watch the original on AXN along with his mother. He has also not shared any details about his stunts with his family as he wants them to watch and be surprised. He added that he didn’t take the show as a competition, but rather a means to live his dreams. “Even when I went through so much anxiety and fear, I can confidently say it was all worth it,” he added with a smile.

Given the controversy was so fresh, we asked Sheezan if he feared being judged by his co-contestants. Shaking his head, he dismissed it saying, “Not at all. That was never a worry for me.” While many had speculated he would be entering Bigg Boss, he said that this came to him and he grabbed it with both hands. “Today, I can say it was the best decision of my life. Everyone keeps saying the journey will change you and I would keep wondering how. After going through the journey, I realised how much I have changed, and my family too feels it. I am positive and confident now. I really needed it right now.”

On being asked if he would pick up Bigg Boss 17 next, Sheezan laughed, “Right now, I am only waiting for this show to hit screens. As I am watching the promos, it’s reminding me how much fun we had. And I want the world to see it. Also, I have learned that you cannot think and plan the future. Things will happen as per the almighty and you just need to be ready for it.”

While Sheezan Khan did not open up about the dark phase in his life, he shared that just like KKK, life too is about facing your fears. “Whatever comes your way, you need to face it and emerge out of it. There is no option to abort anything. This show teaches so much about life, and I guess, I can confidently say that I am today Khatron Ke Khiladi. And after this show, I can tell the world Sheezan Khan is back.”

The actor also said that when he came out of jail, he was touched by the love people had for him. He said, “I saw the love later and was so moved. Every time I bow down during my namaz, I thank Allah for giving me so much. I will never know if I deserve it but he has given me so much. I am so grateful for that and cannot thank him enough. Even today, when I post a photo, these people are so excited. They are looking forward for my comeback, and I am happy for them. Life is all about supporting and inspiring people truly.”

Starting July 15, Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 will air on weekends, at 9 pm.
