Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma rejected the suggestion that he is an ‘insecure’ man who can’t see others succeed, as he explained why so many cast members of The Kapil Sharma Show have quit over the years. He also looked back on his much-publicised fallout with former cast member Sunil Grover, and said that the isolated incident made people feel that he doesn’t get along with anybody, and that isn’t the case.

Kapil said in an interview with AajTak that other cast members such as Chandan Prabhakar, Krushna Abhishek and Ali Asgar left the show for different reasons. He said that he no longer produces his show, which is why he doesn’t get into salary negotiations. This also means that the decision on who to retain and who to let go lies with the channel and not him.

“It is said that you are an egotistical and insecure man,” the host told him, and asked if Kapil is unable to bear to see others succeed, which is why he drops them from his show. Kapil said in Hindi, “I’ve never felt insecurity. In fact, I’ve brought people on that I admired… I used to be short tempered, I’ll admit. It was in my blood; I was an extremist. I would love passionately, and when I was angry, I would really lose composure. But I have improved.”

He continued, “People say I have rivalries. But I have no rivalries with anybody, I am the one and only. Call me egotistical if you will…” Speaking directly about his fallout with Sunil Grover, Kapil said, “Ask them why they don’t want to work with me. Yes, Sunil and I had a falling out. But I’m on good terms with the rest of them.”

In 2017, Kapil and Sunil made headlines after it was reported that they got into an argument on a flight, and that Kapil allegedly hurled a shoe at Sunil after getting drunk. While neither of them has spoken about the incident in detail, Sunil soon departed the Kapil Sharma Show, and now their interactions are limited to social media pleasantries on birthdays and the like.
