Talking about how she had limited roles due to her ethnicity, Chum said, “I had very limited roles and it was very difficult which is why I thought of leaving the industry multiple times. The struggle is real in Mumbai, it’s very expensive, and when you don’t have work, how would you pay the bills? Now it’s going good. I entered the industry in 2018 and left in 2019 because nothing was happening. I was returning home and then Gangubai happened, then lockdown happened, then when I came to get my stuff back, I got a role in Badhaai Do.”

Chum Darang is enjoying the stardom after Bigg Boss and she loves it, but she also believes in being quite humble. Recalling her memories of bagging a role in Gangubai Kathiawadi and working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Chum says, “I had taken my grandmother to Delhi for a knee treatment, we were staying with my brother who was studying then. No one was home, and my grandmother is 80 plus, she shot my audition video for Gangubai. They liked the audition and I got a call from Bhansali’s office, I thought it was fake. I told my best friend about it because sometimes calls like these are fake. She told me to ignore it. Then it turned out that the call was not fake. What an experience it was, I was very scared. I had no line in the film, I was amongst the 10 girls who lived in the brothel with Alia Bhatt’s character.”

“Sir’s work is so perfect that you are constantly scared if he will pull you up for something. While costume designers brought the outfits, he was the one to even decide the colors of it. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s work is so perfect that it also takes a lot of time to get completed. He works very sincerely, I remember once the crew forgot something in the backdrop during a scene and sir got very angry,” she added.

Chum found love in Bigg Boss 18 winner Karanveer Mehra on the show. While they had expressed their feelings for one another during the show, Chum later friend-zoned Karanveer Mehra.
