Ashutosh Kaushik, who rose to fame by winning two major reality shows back-to-back – MTV Roadies 5.0 in 2007 and the second season of Bigg Boss in 2008 – recently opened up about his experience on Bigg Boss, where he signed the show’s contract without even reading it. He also recalled an encounter with the then-host, Shilpa Shetty, who called him out for losing his temper on the show.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Ashutosh shared, “I came to Mumbai for the first time after they called me for Bigg Boss, but they didn’t finalise me right away. I waited around the office, hoping for a response. After 15 days, they called me back, handed me an agreement, and told me my signing amount. The document was in English, so I asked, ‘If I read it, can I change any of the terms?’ When they said no, I just asked them where to sign. Why would I read it if I couldn’t change anything?”

Ashutosh explained that his previous experience on Roadies had prepared him for the dynamics of reality TV, giving him insight into the way the spotlight often focuses on established personalities in the early weeks. With that in mind, he adopted a cautious approach. “For the first four weeks, I would ask other contestants to swear not to eliminate me. That’s how I made it through to the fourth week,” he revealed.

After the initial four weeks, Ashutosh decided it was time to step up his game. He began to actively participate in conflicts and even instigated a few. Reflecting on the altercations, he mentioned an incident in which he used swear words during a fight. Shilpa Shetty then confronted him, accusing him of losing his temper. “I told her, ‘No, Shilpa ji, I didn’t lose my temper – I chose to use it today. I couldn’t hit the other contestants because you would have eliminated me. Anger is an emotion, and I decided to express it today.'”

After his success in reality TV, Ashutosh ventured into films, taking on small roles in movies like Zila Ghaziabad, Kismat Love Paisa Dilli, Shortcut Romeo, and several others, establishing a career in the entertainment industry beyond reality shows.
