Not Surya, Rajinikanth to be Deva this time, in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie

Notably, like all other character posters from Coolie, Rajinikanth’s too is in black-and-white, with selective colour used to highlight the gold hue of the plate. Above the film’s title, the phrase “Superstar as Deva” is displayed, with the name styled in a way that resembles melting gold, matching the colour of the oval plate. Sharing the poster, Lokesh noted, “Superstar @rajinikanth sir as #Deva in #Coolie 💥💥. Thank you so much for this @rajinikanth sir 🤗❤️ It’s going to be a blast 🔥🔥.”

It is worth noting that in director Mani Ratnam’s gangster drama Thalapathi, one of Rajinikanth’s most celebrated films, he portrayed the character Surya, the best friend of Mammootty’s Devaraj aka Deva. Many fans quickly noticed this connection and shared the same on social media.

On Sunday, Lokesh Kanagaraj had also revealed the character poster of Kannada superstar Upendra, who will play the role of Kaleesha in Coolie. Alongside Rajinikanth and Upendra, Coolie will also feature Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna and Soubin Shahir in the roles of Rajasekar, Preethi, Simon, and Dayal, respectively.

With cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, Coolie is currently in production and is expected to release in 2025. Ahead of Coolie, Superstar will next seen in director TJ Gnanavel’s Vettaiyan, scheduled for release on October 10.
