‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s latest movie, Leo, is inching towards the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide, but it seems to be in freefall. The action-thriller raked in around Rs 7 crore on Friday, according to market tracker Sacnilk. After impressive earnings of Rs 39 crore and Rs 34 crore on Monday and Tuesday, the movie experienced a nearly 56 percent drop in collections on Wednesday, bringing in Rs 13 crore. Thursday saw the film making Rs 9 crore and the film’s overall box office collection in India has now reached Rs 271.25 crore. Leo had an overall 29.27% Tamil Occupancy on Friday.
Leo is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe and is set after the events of Karthi’s Kaithi and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram. The film is currently the third-highest grossing Tamil film of all time, trailing Jailer and 2.0, both starring Rajinikanth. According to Sacnilk, Leo has minted Rs 476 crore worldwide.
The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin and Gautham Menon in pivotal roles. Mathew Thomas, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Priya Anand are also a part of the film. Leo marks the second collaboration of Vijay and Lokesh after Master.
The director had opened up about the ‘LCU’ in the press meet which was held before the release of the film. He had said, “I should thank SR Prabhu sir and Kamal sir. If not for the tie-up between their production houses, this wouldn’t have been possible. Unlike the MCU where there’s a mix of genres, all the LCU films will only be action-entertainers. I see the LCU as an action-packed universe, whose heroes are loud about their message towards a drug-free society.”
