Leo box office collection Day 22: Vijay-starrer aims to break Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer’s record of Rs 604 crore, still falling short by Rs 17 crore
Leo box office collection Day 22: Vijay-starrer Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has made Rs 587 crore at the global box office so far.

Vijay-starrer Leo has been in the theatres for over three weeks now and on its 22nd day in the theatres, the Lokesh Kangaraj film managed to bring in Rs 1.55 crore at the domestic box office, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes the film’s total nett domestic collection to Rs 335.20 crore. The film’s worldwide collection is inching closer to Jailer’s Rs 604 crore as it has made Rs 587 crore so far. To break Jailer’s record, Leo still needs to bring in Rs 17 crore more.
Even after three weeks in the theatres, Leo is still running 506 shows in Chennai, which is its primary market, but occupancy in this region currently stands at only 15.21%. It is yet to be seen if Leo will be able to surpass Jailer’s collection but it seems like the film’s lifetime run might end very close to Jailer’s figures. Leo is currently the third highest Tamil grosser of all time. Rajinikanth’s 2.0 leads the pack, followed by Jailer.
Leo released amid much controversy as the early morning shows of the film were cancelled in Tamil Nadu. The film’s audio launch was also cancelled so the first time that the audience got to hear from Vijay on this film was at the success meet that was held a few days ago.
At the success meet of the film, Lokesh said that Vijay hugged him when he saw the film. “My idea was to unleash the performer in him, and when he liked it, that was enough for me. We are meeting for the success meet that’s because of the craze for this one man,” he shared.
Vijay addressed the controversy around the song ‘Naa Varava’ at the success meet and said that one should “look at a film as a film.” He said, “There was this song that created a lot of controversy. There was one line, ‘Viraluku eddukula thee pandham (torch between the fingers).’ Why do you imagine it is a cigarette? Think of it as a powerful pen. Then there was the line: ‘Quarter pathathu tandava konda (Quarter is not enough. Bring out the giant vessel). Why do you think it is alcohol? Think of it as koozhu (porridge).’ I can come up with such a flimsy answer to it all, but I don’t want to do it. I plead with all of you to look at a film as a film.”
Leo also starred Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt among others.
