Diljit Dosanjh, Amar Singh Chamkila lose out at International Emmy Awards 2025

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali attended the 53rd International Emmy Awards Gala held in New York City.

Bollywood film Amar Singh Chamkila failed to bag any awards at the 53rd International Emmy Awards Gala held on Tuesday. Diljit Dosanjh lost the Best Performance by an Actor award to Oriol Pla, while Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila was edged out by Lost Boys & Fairies in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

Diljit was nominated alongside David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla in (I, Addict) and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude) in the Best Performance by an Actor category. Amar Singh Chamkila faced competition from Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, Lost Boys & Fairies and Victory or Death in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

Amar Singh Chamkila traces the life and career of the slain Punjabi folk icon Amar Singh Chamkila, often hailed as the “Elvis of Punjab.” Released on Netflix in April last year, the film, also starring Parineeti Chopra in a pivotal role, received widespread critical acclaim.

Speaking about Amar Singh Chamkila during a panel at the 53rd International Emmy World Television Festival, Imtiaz Ali said, “For me, this was a love story between an artiste and their craft. A singer and their performance are akin to lovers, and at a certain point, you don’t pursue it for financial gain, fame, or glamour; you do it for the sake of the performance itself, transcending any rationale, to connect with their audience, and that was the most compelling drive in Amar Singh Chamkila’s character, which I concentrated on.”
