Karthi starrer Kaithi is continuing to mint money at the box office. The film has managed to hold its own against Bigil, starring Vijay, and has grossed over Rs 11 crore in Tamil Nadu.

According to trade analyst Kaushik LM, multiplexes are increasing shows of Kaithi as it is doing extremely well, thanks to positive word of mouth. He earlier shared with indianexpress.com, “Kaithi isn’t a huge budget film. I am sure the makers would have received much more than what they had invested. The Total Tamil Nadu gross was close to Rs 11 crore.”

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared on Twitter, “In TN, #Kaithi started with a low screen and show count on Day 1..After 2 days, shows were increased.. Now, screens are getting increased..”

The film, which released om the same day as Bigil is holding its own despite facing heavy competition from the Vijay starrer. “Breaking : #Karthi’s #Kaithi grosses a very good 1.07 CR in Chennai city in its opening 3 days (0.32+0.37+0.38) Grossing this much in limited shows from small/mid level screens (due to the #Bigil juggernaut) is remarkable indeed 👌👍,” Kaushik LM tweeted.

The film has been written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Managaram fame. He recently took to Twitter to thank everyone for the film’s response. “Thanx for the overwhelming response guys,.. loved every minute in sets and the entire process of making kaithi…will cherish this forever! Thank you once again prabu sir and karthi sir for the opportunity!..To answer all your txts and calls yes“ Dilli will be back,” he tweeted.

Kaithi has been receiving praise from audience and critics alike for its fast-paced drama and Karthi’s acting. Indianexpress.com’s Manoj Kumar R gave the film 3.5 stars. In his review, he wrote, “The characters in Kaithi are in a constant fight-or-flight mode. Lokesh forces them to choose between pain and pride. Surrender or resist. Self-preservation or the greater good. And these choices are made by everyday folks, who neither have the stomach, nor muscle to put up a fight against the dreaded criminals.”

“Lokesh is wise enough to know that nearly 2 hours 30 minutes of non-stop action showing criminals chasing cops is not enough to draw the audience into the narration. He knows high-voltage action extravaganza sans soul and substance is an exercise in futility. And that’s why he latches onto the sentiments that his characters have to offer,” he added.
