Indian 2 teaser: Kamal Haasan and Shankar do justice to all the delay

Indian (1996) was about an ageing vigilante named Senapathy, a freedom fighter, who kills corrupt government officials. When he finds his beloved son is also a corrupt brake inspector, Senapathy doesn’t let emotions come in the way of his national duty. The first part had Sukanya, Manisha Koirala, and Goundamani in important roles.

India is more corrupt than ever in Shankar’s Indian 2. The montages juxtapose filthy rich politicians and struggling common people. As the unrest skyrockets, people start wishing for the return of Indian. Social media is filled with the hashtag #ComeBackIndian. And boy he does! Kamal Haasan’s makeup has gotten more detailed. He looks a bit rougher than the first part.

We get glimpses of other actors in the film like Siddharth, who seems to be playing a naive common man in Indian 2. Bobby Simha is playing a police officer in the movie. Though actor Vivekh passed away before the film’s completion, it looks like Shankar has found a way to keep him in the movie. Priya Bhavani Shankar is playing a journalist in the film, and Rakul Preet Singh gets a blink-and-you-miss appearance in the teaser.

Not just Rajinikanth, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Kannada superstar Sudeep, Hindi superstar Aamir Khan, and ace Telugu director SS Rajamouli shared the version of the teaser in their language.

Indian 2 is finally set to see the light of day after several struggles. The film, which was almost shelved, was revived by Lyca Productions. It was first supposed to be produced by AM Rathnam, but he backed out of the project. Later, the movie was taken over by Sri Venkateswara Creations, the popular Telugu banner. It would have been the prodution house’s debut in Tamil, but due to budget issues, the makers also removed themselves from the project. The delay of Rajinikanth’s 2.0 further impeded the progress of Indian 2. On top of that, three deaths on the sets of Indian 2 due to a crane accident, the coronavirus lockdown, and Vivekh’s death also contributed to the delay in the film’s release.
