Kunickaa Sadanand on discussing relationship with Kumar Sanu, affairs on Bigg Boss 19: ‘It was never to degrade anyone’
In an exclusive interview, Bigg Boss 19's evicted contestant Kunickaa Sadanand opened up about why she chose to talk about her personal life and divorces on the show.
Veteran actress Kuncikaa Sadanandgot evicted from Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss 19 just two weeks before the grand finale. While the 61-year-old actress is happy to have survived in the game for so long, what mattered to her was that host-Salman Khan also applauded her for her journey on the show. While on Bigg Boss 19, Kunickaa was seen openly discussing her failed marriages and her live-in relationship with Kumar Sanu. Now, in an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, the recently evicted Bigg Boss 19 contestant discussed whether sharing all aspects of their life on national television was a conscious choice.
Discussing why she spoke so openly about her relationships and affairs on the show, Kunickaa said, “I spoke about my personal life usually in the flow while talking to Neelam, Gaurav, or Farrhana. The idea was to teach the other contestants about boundaries, not overexpecting or indulging in people pleasing. It was nothing intentional; my agenda was never to degrade anyone. As for my relationships, they were right in their place during the relationship. I was in a situation mentally where I was right in what I experienced.”
Once on Bigg Boss 19, Kunickaa had opened up about her secret affair with Kumar Sanu in a conversation with Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri. She had said, “I hid my secret relationship for 27 years, never commented on it. I have spoken about it now, and I feel so light. He was a married man, had separated from his wife, and we were in a live-in relationship. I was not married at that time, we were living in, but then he had an affair with another girl. I left him after he accepted cheating on me.”
Not just her relationships, but Kunickaa also spoke about being a single mother on the show time and again. She had also gotten emotional discussing her elder son’s custody battle on the show. Talking about her family and children, the Bigg Boss 19 contestant further added, “The journey has not been easy for my children also, and I respect the fact that both my ex-husbands have been very nice to me, I have been nice to them too. It’s not necessary that if you go through a divorce, it has to be bitter. I had two divorces, which were not bitter; the custody battle was bad, though, but we came out of it strongly. Today, we are a happy family, and you cannot go ahead in life if you carry this baggage.”
Talking about her child’s custody battle, Kunickaa had shared on the show, “I got divorced at the age of 19-20, and after that, I didn’t get married. I fought for my child’s custody for nine years. My ex-husband was very rich, so I used to earn in Mumbai, shoot for 10 days, and then I would run to the Delhi court, nine years passed in all of this. One day, my son told me, ‘Please, one of you give up because my studies are getting severely affected. ’ 16th July 1991, I still remember coming out of the court and saying I will not fight anymore. I told my lawyers that I won’t come to court anymore and asked them to close the case. When my son turned 18, he started understanding things… earlier, his father used to poison him against me. When I would call him, they would not allow me to speak to him, but as he grew up, he realized. Now, when I go to Delhi, I live with him.”
Bigg Boss 19 grand finale is scheduled to take place on 7th December 2025.
