Jawan Prevue has crossed 52 million views on YouTube and has been unanimously deemed well-received. The promo has surpassed the expectations of the fans and SRK fans are hailing director Atlee, who is making his debut in Hindi with the film, for coming up with a promising film. People have also appreciated the background score of Anirudh Ravichander. While fans across the country, especially in the North, have no complaints about the promo; down South, the Tamil fans are having fun creating memes on typical cliches of Atlee films that were found in the promo video.

The prominence that actresses Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra received in the promo was hailed by fans up North. On the other hand, Tamil fans have pointed out how Atlee has exhibited tokenism when it comes to female characters in the past. Atlee’s previous film like Bigil was at the receiving end of such criticism upon release. Many pointed out how the film pretends to be about women’s empowerment, but was still about exalting its hero, Vijay.

Another major quirk of Atlee is his habit of killing off one of the female leads in his films. In all his films, except for Bigil, a female lead is killed to give an emotional backstory to the hero, who most often goes on to avenge the death of his loved one. This is true of Theri and Mersal. Many wondered if Deepika Padukone’s character might face a similar fate in Jawan.

Sharing a screenshot of Deepika from the promo, one Twitter user wrote how she looks like a tailor-made character for eventual death in the film.

Atlee was also called out for taking inspiration from other films.

However, despite such criticism, Atlee ends up winning as the box office numbers always favour him. It has to be noted that the young director is yet to make a flop in his career.

Jawan will be released in theatre on September 7.
