Khatija Rahman, daughter of Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and Saira Banu, has been making remarkable strides in the music industry. Her consecutive contributions of captivating movie songs and a sensational debut on Coke Studio have garnered immense praise.

After enchanting audiences with her splendid rendition of the song Chinnanjiru Nilave, composed by AR Rahman, in Mani Ratnam’s epic action-adventure film Ponniyin Selvan: II, Khatija is now poised to follow in the footsteps of her father and brother Ameen by stepping into the role of a composer herself.

Khatija Rahman is now all set to mark her entry into the world of composing with the upcoming Tamil film Minmini, directed by Halitha Shameem.

Expressing her delight, Halitha took to Twitter to share a photo of herself with Khatija at AM Studios in Chennai. “So happy to be working with this exceptional talent, Khatija Rahman for #MinMini. The euphonious singer is a brilliant music composer too. Some great music underway! ✨✨,” she wrote.

A few days ago, Halitha shared a tweet saying “The composer I’ve been working with for #Minmini has kept me in a state of trance for quite some time.”

“How many times did I catch myself smiling, blushing because great music has that tendency to do so! It keeps you happy,” she added and asked her followers if they could guess who the composer was.

Ever since her debut as a playback singer in 2010 in the S Shankar film Enthiran, in which she lent her voice to the song “Puthiya Manidha” alongside Rahman and SP Balasubrahmanyam, Khatija has achieved great success and went on to sing six more movie songs, all of which became immensely popular.

Recently, when the global music show Coke Studio launched its inaugural Tamil edition, they chose rapper and playback singer Arivu and Khatija to perform the first song, Sagavaasi. An ode to mother nature, Sagavaasi was a “celebration of the bond humans share with nature” and garnered an impressive 22 million views on YouTube.

A much-anticipated film, Minmini’s shooting began in 2015. Halitha took a “creative decision” to suspend the shooting of Minmini in 2018. “We filmed #Minmini’s first half in 2015. It is purely a creative decision to shoot the ‘second half’ in 2019. These young actors were so awesomely natural that we decided to wait for a few years for them to grow up rather than casting some other actors to play their elder versions,” she tweeted announcing the decision.

The film’s shooting was finally wrapped up in 2022, after seven long years.
