After playing the lawyer and a crusader who helps 14-year old Lakshmi, forced into prostitution, in her fight for justice in Nagesh Kukunoor’s film titled Lakshmi, actor Ram Kapoor will be seen playing a politician in his next titled, Aayee Bala Ko Taal Tu.
Directed by debutant Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharya, the film went on floors recently with its first schedule in Chandigarh. It is produced by Arindam Chaudhuri who had earlier produced Do Dooni Chaar.
“Aayee Bala … is a political satire, a black comedy, in which both Rishi Kapoor and I play politicians belonging to rival parties,” reveals Ram Kapoor while not willing to disclose more details about the film that also stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Divya Dutta.
Talking about Lakshmi, he says that as actors, “we can do projects like these to help tell the story. Whenever, I get a chance to do such a film, I will definitely do it. I am always on the look-out for a good script in off-beat cinema as I love doing such films.” Meanwhile, Kapoor is keeping his fingers crossed, hoping that people will come and watch the film as, “Lakshmi is not a film which you would want to see for entertainment. It is a hard-hitting film and not easy to watch.”
The actor has wrapped up the shooting of Sajid Khan’s Humshakals in which he plays a triple role. While talks about making the sequel to Mere Dad Ki Maruti are on, and both Saquib Salim and Kapoor have been confirmed, the makers, Yash Raj Films are on the lookout for a good script. “As soon as the script is locked, we shall start work on the film. I shall definitely do it, as this is the film which I carried on my shoulders and it helped me get bigger projects like Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Student Of The Year etc. It took me 10 years to achieve the top position in television. I believe in going slow and steady, doing the right projects and gradually moving on to bigger things. That’s the game plan,” explains the actor.
Kapoor will also be seen in the comedy, Santa Banta directed by Akashdeep Sabir with Boman Irani which is slated to release in April or May.
