For someone who has always impressed with her dance skills in foot tapping numbers, it is interesting that actress Rani Mukerji’s next film Mardaani will have no songs. This also makes Mardaani the first songless Yash Raj production venture. But keeping the on-going promotional buzz in mind, the makers decided to incorporate a promotional song, which will be used as part of the narrative in the film and will be played as part of the background during the end credits. The anthem, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, aims to inspire women to speak up and fight against any form of abuse, be it mental, physical or sexual. The song is composed keeping in mind the plot of the film and a few recent incidents that brought up issues regarding women’s safety across the country. The song, Main tujhe nahi choodungi, has powerful lyrics penned by Kausar Munir, who stated, “I saw the film before I got down to writing the lyrics for this song. I actually felt that we needed a song that speaks about the inherent strength and grit of a woman. The idea was to send a strong message that we may be physically weak, but we are not weak as people.”
The video of the song was also launched at the do where Mukerji, dressed in dark casuals and drenched in sweat and blood, is seen singing the track in a dimly lit room, which looks like a police station. The energetic anthem is composed by Salim-Sulaiman and additional male vocals are provided by Vijay Prakash. The song is available for download on iTunes for $0.99 under the YRF music label.
