As Khirad in Humsafar, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan won many hearts. Khan, who was in India recently, will next be seen in Shehr-e-zaat, the script of which has been written by Umera Ahmed. The show that will go on air on Zindagi in January, will see the actress discovering her spiritual side.
The show covers the journey of a carefree and arrogant girl who discovers her spiritual side, a task that wasn’t easy for Khan, who had shot for the show almost three years ago.
“It was a difficult character for me. I had finished shooting for Humsafar in which the character goes through immense pain. I should have ideally taken a commercial project but I took up Shehr-e-zaat. It was a completely different role from the character (Falak Sher Afghan) that I had to play. And thus it was a challenging one,” says Khan, who unlike Falak has always been spiritually aware.
The actor who is currently doing Sadqay Tumhare in Pakistan, says that Umera has done a wonderful job with Falak’s character and the Indian audience will see a different avatar of her in the show. Talking about the popularity of Pakistani serials and being accepted by the Indian viewers, she says, “Zindagi’s initiative to build bridges and dissolve boundaries between India and Pakistan has been revolutionary as the Indian audience have loved our shows from across the border. The entire Pakistani entertainment industry feels humbled to receive so much appreciation from this country. The kind of love and adulation that has been showered on my show Humsafar and my character Khirad, is truly exhilarating. India is a beautiful country that values talent and I consider myself amongst the lucky few from Pakistan to have my work recognised and appreciated here. All my love and gratitude to the viewers.”
