The first look of Jackky Bhagnani- Neha Sharma starrer Youngistaan was launched last week at PVR ECX in Mumbai. Bhagnani, accompanied by his on-screen girlfriend Neha Sharma, was welcomed on stage with well dressed bodyguards armed with heavy guns following him.
Talking about the film and the unique marketing strategy adopted by the producers, Sony and MSM Motion Pictures, the ac tor explained, “Every other film is coming up with an application these days, but we wanted to make sure that our effort stands out. The film is a light-hearted drama with a social message and is not a strictly serious film. Accordingly, Sony and MSM Motion Pictures, the team came up with the idea of launching a watermark based application. Kudos to their creativity, because we have never seen something like this before.” The actor further explained how the application will function. “Apart from giving the usual synopsis, wallpapers and music video links of the film; all our promos online will have a special watermark. So, if that promo is playing anywhere nearby, and you have a device with our application, the watermark will help detect the device and you will instantly see a pop- up which will have interesting trivia related to the film or the political situation in our country. It will also ask questions like—What do you think about Abhimanyu Kaul’s (the character that Bhagnani plays in the film) opinion? Thus, the application will not just be fun, it will help spread awareness and a message as well,” mentioned Bhagnani.
Talking about his role in the film, the actor stated that his character Abhimanyu Kaul is not inspired by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. “The look conceptualised by Afzal (director, Syed Ahmed Afzal) demanded that I wear certain outfits and sport a pair of spectacles. But that doesn’t mean that my character is based on someone. The reason why people think I am looking like Mr.Gandhi is because he is one of the few young politicians who dresses in a different way. Abhimanyu has a separate identity and principles.”
