Punjabi singer Dharampreet commits suicide

He was with his mother at his home when he took the extreme step. Her wife and son have gone to her parents’ house for summer vacations. Dharampreet hailed from Bilaspur village.

Dharampreet’s mother, reportedly, knocked at his door and when no reply came, she got the neighbours to break it open. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan. The singer, who started his career in 1993, had very little work for the past year and a half.

Filmmaker and close friend Amardeep Gill said, “He was an introvert and never used to share his mind. His video album had come about 6 months back and he was in full spirits. I am shocked to learn about his suicide.”

Neither was there a suicide note, nor did the police receive any complaint. An FIR under section 174 of the IPC was lodged and the body had been handed over to the family after post-mortem.

Singers Balkar Sidhu, actor turned politician Bhagwant Mann also expressed shock over death of Dharampreet.

Dharampreet’s fans from different parts of the state expressed shock and grief over suicide of the singer and poured comments on social media. His cremation was largely attended by people from all walks of life apart from singer fraternity.
