Prithviraj wraps up shoot of Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan: ‘What an incredible 14-month journey across 8 states and 4 countries’
Mohanlal wrote a heartfelt note thanking team L2: Empuraan after the shooting of the much-awaited sequel to Lucifer was wrapped up on Sunday.

There is no doubt that L2: Empuraan, one of the most expensive Malayalam films, is also one of the most-anticipated projects of 2025. With the movie scheduled to hit the screens on March 27, 2025, the makers announced that the shooting of the big-budget sequel has been wrapped up. Taking to social media in the early hours of Sunday, Prithviraj wrote, “At 5:35 am today, by the banks of the Malampuzha reservoir, we canned the final shot of #L2E #EMPURAAN See you in theatres in 117 days!”

This can be considered as quite an achievement because of not just the magnitude of L2: Empuraan but also the busy schedules of both the lead actor Mohanlal, and Prithviraj, who is directing the sequel of the 2019 blockbuster, Lucifer. The usually reticent Mohanlal shared a heartwarming post about his journey as Stephen Nedumpally, the protagonist of the Lucifer movies. The film went on floors in October last year and has been shot extensively in various global locations.
He wrote, “That’s a wrap for L2: Empuraan! What an incredible 14-month journey across 8 states and 4 countries, including the UK, USA, and UAE. This film owes its magic to the brilliant direction of Prithviraj Sukumaran whose creativity elevates every frame.” The legendary actor also spoke warmly about the writing by Murali Gopy, and producers Antony Perumbavoor and Lyca Productions. “A big thank you to Murali Gopy for his visionary storytelling that forms the heart of this film. A heartfelt thank you to Antony Perumbavoor for his unwavering belief in this project and to Mr.Subaskaran and Lyca Productions for their invaluable support.”

L2: Empuraan boasts of a huge ensemble featuring the likes of Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrajith Sukumaran, Bobby Simha, Pasupathy, Shine Tom Chacko, and Arjun Das. With cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev and music by Deepak Dev, the film is reportedly made on a budget of over Rs 100 crore. Thanking the cast and crew for their support to Empuraan, Mohanlal wrote, “None of this would have been possible without the dedicated cast and crew, who bring this story to life. L2: Empuraan has been a remarkable chapter in my journey as an artist, one I’ll always treasure.”
The upcoming movie will feature Mohanlal in the role of Stephen Nedumpally, who is also the dreaded international don, Khureshi Ab’raam. It is speculated that L2: Empuraan would not just be the sequel to Lucifer, but also act as a prequel of sorts to understand the origins of the characters played by Mohanlal and Prithviraj.
