(Image: IE Malayalam)Renowned Malayalam film and television actor Dileep Shankar was found dead in a private hotel at Vanross Junction in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. The cause of death is still under investigation. Dileep was widely recognised for his roles in popular Malayalam television serials such as Ammayariyathe, Sundari and Panchagni.
It has been reported that Dileep, who was in Thiruvananthapuram for the filming of a serial, had rented the hotel room four days ago and had not been seen outside for the past two days. Despite multiple attempts by his colleagues to reach him, Dileep did not answer their calls, prompting them to visit the hotel for enquiry. When hotel staff opened the door, they discovered Dileep’s body and a strong odor indicated that he had been dead for several hours.
The police have arrived at the scene and are currently investigating. Their initial assessment suggests that there are no signs of foul play in his death.
Dileep Shankar resided in Ernakulam and according to Manorama Online, Manoj, the director of the serial he was working on, mentioned that there was a two-day break in the shooting, during which Dileep failed to respond to repeated calls. Reports also suggest that Dileep had been dealing with health issues.
Following the news of his death, his friend and colleague Seema G Nair expressed her sorrow on social media, sharing an emotional post: “Didn’t you call me 5 days ago… I couldn’t talk because I was lying down with a headache… Now, I got to know about you when a journalist called me. What happened to you Dileep… I don’t know what to write. Condolences.”
