Khalifa Glimpse: Prithviraj Sukumaran plays a gang boss in first glimpse of Vyshakh’s slick action epic

The first glimpse of Khalifa, released on star Prithviraj Sukumaran's birthday, promises a blood-soaked action epic set against the backdrop of the smuggling syndicates of the United Kingdom.

Khalifa is the next big release for Prithviraj Sukumaran, directed by Vyshakh. The first glimpse video, which was released as part of Prithviraj’s birthday celebrations today, promises an action-packed gangster drama set in the UK. Prithviraj plays Amir Ali, a gold smuggler who must defend his empire against his own bloodline and an encroaching enemy ready to take over his business. The visuals from the trailer promised a slick, action entertainer that will see Prithviraj returning to action after a short gap. The actor posted the first glimpse on his ‘X’ account with the caption,” A revenge forged by a lineage that spans generations! Next onam.. Aamir Ali will write his vengeance in gold! #KHALIFA – The Ruler.”

The trailer begins with Indrans being interrogated by customs officials,  and the actor launches into a monologue about ‘Cofeposa’, an Indian law that prohibits smuggling from foreign countries. Then he goes on to describe the smuggling rings that controlled India back in the day to introduce the hero, Aamir Ali who is in charge of the smuggling syndicate working out of the UK. The glimpse then cuts to elongated action blocks featuring a stylish-looking Prithviraj Sukumaran.

The film, penned by Jinu Abraham, is set mostly in the UK, with other parts being shot in and around Kochi. Jomon T John handles the cinematography, while Jakes Bejoy is in charge of the music department for the film. Khalifa is being bankrolled by Jinu Abraham Innovation. This is the second collaboration between Vysakh and Prithviraj after their work together in the Mammootty starrer Pokkiriraja in 2010. Khalifa will be hitting screens by the beginning of next year.
