Days after announcing the film’s release date, the makers of Kaathal – The Core have unveiled its official trailer, which emphasises that it will be a gripping drama.

Helmed by Jeo Baby, known for The Great Indian Kitchen, the film stars Mammootty and Jyotika in the lead roles and the trailer hints at tension between the on-screen couple, married for the past 20 years.

The 108-second trailer begins with Mathew Devassy (Mammootty) entering a byelection for one of the wards in their gram panchayat. However, it quickly becomes apparent that things are not going well in his life, particularly in his relationship with his wife. Although they reside under the same roof, it’s evident that they rarely talk to each other.

The promo, without revealing too much, provides glimpses of an impending court hearing that will alter the course of their family’s life. In the background, Mathew’s voice is heard saying, “I am not someone who talks much. It’s been almost 20 years since we got married. What more is left to discuss now?” indicating that a lack of communication is a significant issue between them.

Similar to the trailer, the film’s first and second look posters, along with the release date announcement poster, have presented contrasting ideas about Kaathal, heightening anticipation among fans.

While the first look poster featured Mammootty and Jyotika sharing a laugh on the porch of their house, the second poster featured the two exhibiting diametrically opposite emotions as they gaze into each other’s eyes intensely. In contrast, the release date announcement poster depicted the two embracing each other as their faces reflected a blend of sadness and tension.

Penned by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria, who scripted the Malayalam film Neymar, Kaathal – The Core is bankrolled by Mammootty Kampany and will be distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Adarsh Sukumaran also co-scripted the recent Malayalam actioner RDX: Robert Dony Xavier.
