Althaf Salim’s romantic comedy Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira is all set for a theatrical release on August 29. The film stars Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan in their first-ever pairing together. In a recent interview, Kalyani shared her experience of working with Fahadh.

“I think working with Fahadh, honestly, has helped my craft. I don’t think any other experience has helped me as much as working with him,” said Kalyani.

Kalyani Priyadarshan recalled the first day of shoot, filming a tricky scene alongside Fahadh Faasil, as the director threw her directly into the deep end. But Fahadh comforted Kalyani by confessing to his own insufficiency as an actor.

“I was a little nervous, and he said, ‘Don’t worry. We’ll have to reshoot this.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘No, it’s my first few days. It takes me some time to find my character. So, most of the time, I’ll end up reshooting. After a few days, I realize oh shit, whatever I shot earlier is not right,'” recalled Kalyani, in an interview with Galatta Plus.

“So, what made me feel secure in my own process is that it happens a lot. To know that it happens to even Fahadh is amazing. He’s one of the greatest actors of this industry, but even he takes time to warm up to a character,” confessed Kalyani.

She also pointed out that like all the greats, Fahadh also has a mix of security and insecurity. “If you look, all the greatest actors out there, they need two things to be strong as an actor: one, you need to be incredibly self-confident, and two, you need to be incredibly insecure. I have the insecurity part locked on really well. I have not aced the self-confident area. But Fahadh is that. He’s incredibly self-confident of his capabilities, but he’s also just insecure enough to want to push as an actor in every shot,” argued Kalyani.

Both these qualities of Fahadh Faasil helped Kalayani Priyadarshan place more trust and security in her process. “He’s also one of those actors who, no matter how simple the shot is — it could be really something as simple as his finger lying down in the frame, you don’t see anything else — he’d watch the monitor and say, ‘I can do better.’ Imagine, right? To see that kind of commitment in every single shot was really amazing for me. It’s a big learning process,” added Kalyani.

Kalyani Priyadarshan admitted it was like “watching a teacher” while working with Fahadh Faasil. On a lighter note, she revealed while Fahadh tried his best to convince Althaf to reshoot the early scenes, the director claimed even if they did, he’d end up using the original ones.
