Dr. Mann. Lt. General Leslie Groves. And finally… Odysseus, the King of Ithaca. After playing pivotal roles in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Oppenheimer, Matt Damon is set to finally play the lead role in his upcoming film, Odyssey.
The movie, which is written and directed by Nolan, is based on the iconic Homer poem, Odyssey, and the makers shared a first look poster of Damon as Odysseus.
The Odyssey is all about the titular King of Ithaca returning home after the Trojan war. The epic poem that continues to be one of the most-read and most-revered pieces of literature features different facets of the human behaviour, including betrayal, divine will, and heroism.
As with most of Christopher Nolan’s recent films, Odyssey will also be a major multi-starrer, especially since the poem features pivotal characters meeting Odysseus in his journey. Some of the names involved in the project include Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Irwin, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, and Nolan alumni like Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, and Himesh Patel.
Interestingly, Odyssey is set to be shot with IMAX cameras, and it would be lovely to see how the period setup comes to life considering Nolan’s proclivity to use minimal CGI. Backed by Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas’ Syncopy Inc banner, Odyssey is expected to hit theatres on July 17, 2026.
