Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has said he would not celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colours,as a mark of respect to the victims of the Mumbai attacks in November.

Holi, celebrated this year on Wednesday,is usually marked with fervour at the Bachchan residence, with several Bollywood celebrities in attendance.

But the Mumbai attacks,in which nearly 170 people were killed, has put a damper on festivities.

“Professional work is understandable, but private excesses do not find favor in our hearts,” the 66-year-old actor said.

“And so shall we respect that. It is the right thing to do.”
