Kannada actor Darshan’s bail plea rejected

Darshan was arrested on Sept 9 for allegedly assaulting and threatening his wife.

A local court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of popular Kannada actor Darshan,who has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening his wife.

First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Venkatesh Hulagi rejected the bail plea.

Darshan’s attempts to secure bail suffered a setback despite his wife retracting her statement in the court yesterday of sustaining head injuries during a fall in bathroom. This ran contrary to her allegations in a police complaint on September 8 that he had assaulted her and threatened her with a revolver.

Darshan was arrested on September 9 and produced before a magistrate who had remanded him to judicial custody.

Several leading Kannada film personalities had tried to bring about a patch-up between Darshan and his wife.

Police had yesterday requested the court to drop IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) filed against Darshan who is now undergoing treatment for asthma and jaundice in a hospital.

Magistrate Venkatesh Hulagi rejected Darshan’s bail plea saying he didn’t have jurisdiction to handle cases falling under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder).

Darshan will now have to move the sessions court to seek bail.
