Deepika becomes a freedom fighter

Deepika Padukone becomes freedom fighter Kalpana Dutta in Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.

Deepika Padukone plays the role of Kalpana Dutta in director Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. A period thriller,it is based on the book Do And Die by Manini Chatterjee.

According to the director,Dutta was just 17 when the Chittagong Uprising took place. Along with her friend she played different roles in the revolutionary movement,including that of a courier transporting acid from Kolkata to Chittagong.

After her arrest,the court took into consideration Dutta’s age and sex and she was given transportation for life. After her release in May 1939,she married P. C. Joshi (General-Secretary of the Communist Party of India). The author Manini Chatterji is her daughter-in-law.”

Khelein Hum …is Gowariker’s first period thriller and has been shot mostly in Goa along with portions in Mumbai.
