Being Mona-tonous
After several stints on reality shows,Mona Singh returns as an actor to play a hassled housewife in Kya Hua Tera Vaada...
BACK in 2003,amid the sari-clad and moist-eyed Tulsis and Parvatis on television,a 20-something girl in spectacles and bushy eye-brows left a strong impression on the audience. Soon,Mona Singh, who played Jassi in Sony Entertainments Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, became a household name.
Nearly six years later, the 32-year-old returns to fiction on Sony Entertainments latest offering,Kya Hua Tera Vaada.
The show went on air on January 30. Singh has not been altogether missing from television through the years she capitalised on the reality show trend and participated in and anchored many of them. Her energetic style of anchoring, along with her original, rather glam avatar, was appreciated
at first but monotony soon set in. I was waiting for a strong script and thats
why took to reality TV. I am done with that now, she says.
With Kya Hua Tera Vaada,Singh is ready to begin her tele-innings afresh. I cant understand why the industry loves to stereotype, rues Singh. If Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin brought her offers to play similar geeky characters then her role as Kareena Kapoors pregnant sister in 3 Idiots had her reading multiple scripts where the filmmakers wanted her to play something similar.
The new show joins the trend of mature love stories. The actor plays Mona,a mother of three in her 30s. The show revolves around a couple that is desperately trying to
revive the romance after 10 years of marriage. Pawan Shankar of Kasamh Se fame plays the
husband Pradeep.
Most shows these days are about the chemistry between newly-weds. But the chemistry between Mona and Pradeep is already established the two already share an understanding, having spent a decade together. Its the story after the happily ever after, Singh laughs.
The struggles of the on-screen couple to keep their romance ticking were evident in the promos. Singh elaborates,The show depicts the changing priorities of a couple. How,after 10 years of marriage, the touch of the husband is no longer electrifying; youre so over it.
