Actor Vikrant Massey announced his retirement from the industry, leaving his fans and colleagues shocked. While the internet has been torn over what led Vikrant to make this drastic decision, a few pointed out that it might be the recent trolling and threats that the actor was getting following his film The Sabarmati Report. A section of the internet also wondered if it is a publicity stunt; Vikrant was in the news when his promotion for a ride-sharing app inDrive was presented as his face-off with a cab driver.

On the other hand, the actor has also been on the receiving end of hate of late. He had opened up that even his infant son Vardaan also received threats and backlash for The Sabarmati Report.

Vikrant had opened up about receiving threats and told PTI, “Yes, I have received threats, and more are likely to come. But, as artists, we tell stories. This film is based on facts, and it’s something we, as a team, are dealing with together. We will handle it the way it needs to be handled.” He further revealed that dismay over his 9-month-old son bearing the brunt too. He said in an interview, “These people know I became a father recently to a child who can’t even walk yet. They are dragging his name, and I am concerned for his safety. What society are we living in?”

Earlier around Karwa Chauth, Vikrant received abuse after he shared a photo touching his wife Sheetal’s feet. While the actor’s gesture was slammed, he was also trolled for his family’s secular approach. Reacting to that, Vikrant had said in a podcast, “My phone had six photos, but only four of them became a topic of discussion. Some people liked it, while others even abused me. I don’t understand why. I believe that if you want peace at home, you should touch your wife’s feet from time to time. People made those photos viral.”

Talking about his secular stance, he had said in another interview, “A truly secular person stands by others regardless of religion, caste, or background, living together and respecting each other’s culture while taking pride in your own. My parents had an inter-caste marriage, and so did I. My brother even converted to another religion. What could be more secular than that?”

Fans have been wondering if Vikrant’s decision has stemmed from these latest rounds of hate and trolling the actor and his family. The Sabarmati Report, based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, has earned ₹28.25 crore at the domestic box office, as per Sacnilk.

“The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support (namaste emoji). But as I move forward, I realise its time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted,” Vikrant wrote in his retirement announcement.

His next two films are Yaar Jigri and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan.
