When Yograj Singh accused Akshay Kumar of having his lines removed, complaining about him to director after taking offence

Seven years after starring in Singh is Kinng, Akshay Kumar headlined the film’s sequel, 2015’s Singh is Bliing. The film also starred Amy Jackson and Yograj Singh in important roles. While Amy played the female lead, Yograj played the hot-headed father of Akshay’s character. Made on a budget of Rs 70 crore, Singh is Bliign went on to earn Rs 149 crore worldwide. Yograj Singh, who also happens to be cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father, recently made headlines for his comments about the film business, and criticised Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par. This wasn’t the first time that he has made such statements about movies. Some years ago, Yograj accused Akshay Kumar of behaving badly with him on the Singh is Bliing set.

In an interview with Channel Sattrang, Yograj Singh said, “I was doing the film Singh is Bliing, where I played the role of Akshay’s father. Now, I shouldn’t say anything, yet I am sharing… I was doing a scene where the girl (Amy) comes, I explain things to her through gestures as I don’t know English (in the film). During the scene, I had to point my finger towards Akshay. Suddenly, Akshay felt offended… He got up and went to the director, who is a dancer from the South, Prabhudeva. He said, ‘Tell him not to point his finger at me.’ I was stunned.”

He added, “I was just delivering my dialogue, and he changed my dialogue. I was like, ‘How can someone behave so badly even after reaching such great heights.’ Then I thought, ‘Let it be. How is it my concern?’ But, I really felt bad. They even cut short my song. I assumed this is how they work in Mumbai.”

The scene in question involves Akshay Kumar’s character bringing Amy Jackson’s character to his house in Punjab, and Yograj Singh’s character communicating with her through gestures. Singh is Bliing also starred Lara Dutta and Kay Kay Menon in important roles. Yograj Singh is an actor and former cricketer who played one Test and six One Day Internationals for India.
