In the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, civil services aspirants and those preparing for other competitive examinations will not have to visit big cities anymore looking for books and references.

The state Panchayati Raj Department is soon setting up digital libraries in 11,350 gram panchayats of the state’s 35 districts in the first phase to help students prepare for competitive exams without depending on coaching classes, the state government said in a statement. Each library will have e-books, video lectures, audio content, quizzes and nearly 20,000 digital educational resources. The government is spending Rs 4 lakh on each library — Rs 2 lakh on books, Rs 1.30 lakh on IT equipment and Rs 70,000 on furniture.
