When Javed Akhtar bought the entire flower shop for Shabana Azmi: ‘We had a fight a few days later and…’

Shabana recalled that they got in a fight a few days later and then, Javed wrote her a poem and reminded her of the flowers. “A couple of days after that we had a fight, so Javed Akhtar being a poet says, ‘Usi makaam par kal mujhko dekh kar tanha, bahut udaas hue phool bechne vale (When the flowers vendors saw me alone, they were upset.)’, and I was just completely floored.” She continued laughing and shared, “My mother warned me. My mother said these poets have a way with words, don’t fall for it but of course, I fell for it, just like she fell for my father.”

Shabana Azmi had previously shared an incident where Javed bought her a Salvador Dali painting for her birthday and went out of the way to surprise her. She told Pinkvilla, “He had gone through such limits that I shouldn’t get to know (about the surprise). That was what touched me, the effort he put into it. Otherwise, I don’t value gifts of that kind.”
