When Vivek Oberoi claimed fans were comparing his performance in Krrish 3 to Heath Ledger as Joker: ‘International level ka performance…’

Actor Vivek Oberoi once suggested that fans were comparing his performance as the villain Kaal in Krrish 3 to Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Ledger, who died months before The Dark Knight was released to critical and commercial success in 2008, won a posthumous Oscar for his performance. It remains one of the most influential villainous turns in years.

In an old interview, Vivek had spoken about how happy he was with the positive reaction to his negative character in Krrish 3. He had said, “Bohot acha lag raha hai. Itne compliments mil rahe hai. Kahin na kahin ye jo comparison kiya ja raha hai. Kabhi koi international level ka performance keh raha hai, ‘Jo Vivek Oberoi ne Kaal perform kiya hai, wo Heath Ledger, Joker, Batman mein Joker ka role kiya tha, vaise hai (I am feeling very nice. I am getting so many compliments. People are calling it an international level performance. People are saying, ‘Vivek Oberoi’s role of Kaal is like Heath Ledger’s Joker in the Batman movie).”

Some time later, however, Vivek walked back this earlier statement. He said in an interview with Hindustan Times in 2014 that he never compared his role of Kaal in Krrish 3 with that of Ledger’s Joker. The actor said that his comments were misinterpreted, but admitted that he was probably inspired by Joker. He said, “The reactions were shocking. My comments were misinterpreted. I never said that my role was like Heath Ledger’s, which is iconic, and we all agree with that. I said that I was inspired by him, his role was brilliant.”

In Krrish 3, the evil scientist Kaal all out to destroy mankind with his laboratory-grown breed of mutants. Vivek was trolled mercilessly for his comments about being compared to Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance.
