Vivek Oberoi recalls getting ‘threatening calls from the underworld’, experienced ‘financial strain’ after infamous outburst
Vivek Oberoi opened up about receiving threats from the underworld, and fearing for the safety of his family.

Actor Vivek Oberoi opened up about the lowest phase of his life, both professionally and personally, when he felt outcast from the film industry and as a result, experienced financial difficulties. Vivek now balances his acting career with entrepreneurship, and is highly successful in his business ventures. In an interview, he spoke about the threats that he received from underworld elements at one point in his life, and said that he became truly concerned when his parents were targeted as well.
Appearing on Dr Jai Madaan’s YouTube channel, Vivek said, “There was a time when I entered a conflict zone in my career, and because of that, I faced a lot of financial strain. I was very stressed. I would get calls from the underworld. I would get threats. And I’d never experienced anything like this in my life. All of this happened together.”
Alluding to the feud he initiated with Salman Khan, Vivek said, “It was an emotional response. I was very young. I understood the repercussions and consequences of my actions much later. I was fine with dealing with the consequences of my actions, but I was bothered when my parents were threatened. My dad would pick up the phone and someone would threaten him; my mother would answer the phone and someone would threaten her. I was scared for my sister. Initially, we thought that they were prank calls. But later, the police confirmed that the threats were very real.”

Vivek didn’t specify what he was being threatened with, but he said that they wanted to ‘cut him to size’. He continued, “At the same time, I went through a difficult phase in my relationship.” Asked if he felt supported by the industry when he was going through these difficult times, Vivek said, “A lot of people showed support in their own way. I prefer appreciating people, even if they make small gestures. Expectation is the root cause of pain.”
