During the event, Sunny shared the reason behind doing patriotic films like Border and Shaheed, among others, and how the representation of patriotism has evolved from the times he did Border and Gadar to Gadar 2.
Speaking at SCREEN Live, the Gadar star shared his view on patriotism and patriotic movies. He said, “We are all patriotic. We all love our mother. The country is our mom. Speaking of Border, I always wanted to do a war film. JP Dutta is a great director. I think everybody in the film gave it their all. We did our best, without knowing how the audience would react to it. But, the audience loved it because people wanted to see the patriotism.”
Sunny Deol also talked about his iconic film Gadar, which was originally a romantic drama, but is considered a patriotic film due to its India-Pakistan theme. He said, “And Gadar, when the film came to me… I was really excited. It’s a romantic film, but people talk about the pump scene. After the film released, people made fun of it, but the audience loved it. That’s the film that brought me back. The character of Tara Singh, he was deep inside people’s heart. I am sure the generation who watched it back then must be quite old now. But the digital platform has made it available for all.”
