Sriram Raghavan on making Hindi and Tamil versions of Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi’s Merry Christmas: ‘I’ll not do this again because…’
Sriram Raghavan has shared that for the Tamil version of Merry Christmas, Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif shot scenes all over again after shooting the Hindi version.

Sriram Raghavan, Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi and Sanjay Kapoor launched the Tamil trailer of their upcoming film Merry Christmas in Mumbai on Thursday. The director here opened up about why he decided to make his Tamil debut with Merry Christmas and why he will not want to make a Tamil film again. However, he expressed his desire to direct a Marathi film soon.
At the press conference, after showcasing the Tamil versions of the trailer and title track of Merry Christmas, Sriram said that because he is a Tamilian, he wanted to make a Tamil film for a long time. After directing Merry Christmas in both the languages — Hindi and Tamil, the director confessed that it is a rather tedious job and he would not like to do it again.
“I’m a Tamilian and I wanted to make a Tamil film. With this film (Merry Christmas), I got a chance to do that (make a Tamil movie), with Vijay Sethupathi, an actor from there. But I don’t think I’ll do this again because it requires a lot of hard work (doing the film in Hindi and Tamil simultaneously),” he said.
The Tamil trailer of Merry Christmas has visual differences, and the character actors in the two films are also different. The filmmaker clarified that the Tamil version is not just a dubbed version but they shot the movie all over again after completing the Hindi version.
He said, “For instance, we shot one scene, and after ten days, we have to shoot the same scene, with same camera, same lightening, so it’s not that much. But that adventure and discovery is not there. However, I enjoyed doing that (making Merry Chirstmas) as I wanted to do a Tamil movie.”
Merry Christmas is scheduled to release in cinemas on January 12.
