Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 3: After a shaky start, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has quickly redeemed itself over its first weekend. According to Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 28.22 crore on Sunday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 59.12 crore within just three days of release.
The Aamir Khan-starrer began its box office journey with Rs 10.7 crore — a little underwhelming, especially when compared to the year’s biggest hit Chhaava, which raked in Rs 31 crore on its opening day. Despite the lukewarm start, Sitaare Zameen Par saw an impressive 88.79 percent jump in collections on Saturday, earning Rs 20.2 crore. The upward trend continued on Sunday, with a further 39.70 percent increase, as the film raked in Rs 28.22 crore. The film is getting a solid word-of-mouth from audience after receiving positive reviews from critics.
While the film has been released in multiple languages — Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu — the core audience remains in the Hindi belt. On Sunday, the film earned Rs 28 crore from the Hindi version, while the Tamil version contributed Rs 17 lakh and the Telugu version a modest Rs 5 lakh to the domestic collection. It saw 50.70 percent Hindi occupancy, 41.59 percent Tamil occupancy and 21.92 percent Telugu occupancy on Sunday.
Overall, Sitaare Zameen Par has collected Rs 48.42 crore over Saturday and Sunday — less than Chhaava’s Rs 85 crore and Housefull 5’s Rs 63.5 crore during the same period. However, Sitaare Zameen Par’s performance stands out as the film is not a tentpole, which has become de rigueur for post-pandemic theatrical releases. Instead, Aamir brings forth a heartwarming story with a largely new cast of neurodivergent actors with a message.
Aamir’s film has fared better than many other big 2025 releases. For instance, Raid 2 minted Rs 30 crore, Sikandar earned Rs 30 crore on its first Saturday and Sunday, Kesari Chapter 2 collected Rs 22.75 crore, and Sunny Deol’s Jaat pulled in Rs 23.75 crore on their respective opening weekends.
Aamir Khan’s last film, Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), was a major box office disappointment, minting a total of Rs 61.36 crore in domestic collection in its lifetime. Sitaare Zameen Par has already raked in Rs 59.12 crore in just three days and is poised to surpass Laal Singh Chaddha’s lifetime domestic earnings very soon.
Prior to that, Aamir’s 2018 release Thugs of Hindostan also underperformed. It collected Rs 41.5 crore over its first weekend — lower than Sitaare Zameen Par’s Rs 48.42 crore. Despite a massive budget of Rs 300 crore, Thugs of Hindostan could only manage Rs 133 crore in total domestic revenue.
Aamir’s 2017 release Secret Superstar also saw moderate success, with a lifetime domestic collection of Rs 81.28 crore. Given the current trajectory, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to surpass this number within five days of release.
Aamir’s last massive hit remains 2016’s Dangal, which earned a staggering Rs 387.38 crore in domestic collections. Dangal had minted Rs 77.23 crore over its first weekend, significantly higher than Sitaare Zameen Par’s Rs 48.42 crore.
Aamir Khan and the debutant cast of Sitaare Zameen Par made a surprise visit to theatres screening the film. A video of the cast meeting fans at the theatres is doing rounds was shared by Aamir’s team on YouTube. The crowd welcomed the cast with loud cheers and applause. Take a look:
During his interaction with fans, Aamir credited the film’s cast for their hard work and dedication. Apart from Aamir, Sitaare Zameen Par also stars Genelia Deshmukh and is directed by RS Prasanna, who earlier helmed Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.
