The most anticipated box office clash of the year didn’t disappoint, as Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 battled it out for dominance this Diwali. Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again has taken an impressive lead, roaring to life with a staggering Rs 43.5 crore nett on its opening day across India. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham Again’s Day 1 collection exceeded expectations, setting the stage for a triumphant run. Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 put up a strong fight, garnering Rs 35.5 crore.

The box office rivalry between Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will continue to unfold over the weekend. A key factor contributing to Singham Again’s advantage is its wider screen allocation, surpassing Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s limited release in major metros like Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. This is Ajay Devgn’s biggest-ever opening, besting the Rs 32 crore that Singham Returns debuted with a decade ago.

In an attempt to level the playing field, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 team has filed a complaint with the Competition Commission of India (CCI), requesting a 50-50% screen split. However, with Singham Again already enjoying a significant screen count advantage, the outcome of this appeal remains uncertain.

The overall occupancy rate of Singham Again was 65.35% , with most people catching the film’s evening shows (75.91%). Even the morning shows reported an occupancy of 39.39% and afternoon shows reaching 71.90% and for the night shows, the occupancy was 74.19%. Cities like Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai, and Pune recorded the highest occupancy, ranging from 60-70%. In Mumbai, where there were 1101 shows, the occupancy was 73.50% and Delhi and NCR, with 1310 shows, saw a solid 63.00% occupancy.

Singham Again’s opening day collection is the highest of any film in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, indicating a strong start for the movie. While box office figures aren’t as astronomical as anticipated, the absence of bulk buys or discounted tickets ensures the numbers accurately reflect the film’s performance.

Rohit Shetty returns to his winning franchise with Singham Again, following the smash hits Singham (2011) and Singham Returns (2014). Bouncing back from the box office disappointment of Cirkus (2022), which collected Rs 32.10 crore, Shetty has assembled an all-star cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Ranveer Singh, to revitalise the franchise. The film’s innovative Ramayana-inspired storyline adds an extra layer of intrigue this festive season, making Singham Again a major release. The film was produced on a reported budget of over Rs 300 crore.
