Shershaah movie review and release updates: Shah Rukh Khan praises Sidharth Malhotra

Shershaah marks Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra's first film together.

Director Vishnu Vardhan in a conversation with indianexpress.com said, "Whatever you see on screen actually happened. That’s the beauty of it. It’s also documented as such. When you talk to people around him, family, friends and officers that served with him, sometimes you really tend to believe is it really true? But that’s what actually happened. Like the dialogues he has spoken in the film are what he said in his life. Imagine what kind of a man he was. With Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role, the biopic of Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on August 12. The biopic is titled Shershaah and one may wonder why.

The Kargil War of 1999 was extensively covered by television media and as the Indian Army accomplished one goal after another, their laurels were broadcasted on national news. It was during one of these news interviews with NDTV that Captain Vikram Batra had shared that his codename was Shershaah, which the Pakistanis were already aware of. READ MORE

In a BTS video, Sidharth Malhotra spoke about Vikram Batra's personality. "He had different personalities. He is this extremely charming, personal, lovable Punjabi boy. A typical yaaron ka yaar, like we say. But when it came to duty, he's someone despite his comrades and colleagues telling him how dangerous it is, he would just go for it," he said.

In a BTS video shared on Instagram, Kiara Advani said, "I believe that Captain Vikram Batra's parents were very keen for Sid to play their son because of a certain sense of similarity. They kept looking at Sid and saying, 'You remind us so much of our son.'"

Shershaah stars Kiara Advani as Dimple Cheema, Captain Vikram Batra's fiancee. In a recent statement, Kiara recalled that the day they shot the funeral sequence, everyone on the set had tears in their eyes. Kiara shared that they shot the funeral sequence at the same place in Palampur where Batra’s funeral was actually held all those years ago. 

“I told Vishnu Sir I would want to do only one take. He decided to take my close-up shot first to capture the emotions. While the camera was on me, I could hear sniffles all around me because the entire crew, including the junior artists, all other co-actors, despite not being in the frame, were all teary-eyed, even though they weren’t supposed to cry. We all resonated with the feeling of immense gratitude for the sacrifice of Captain Vikram Batra. It didn’t feel like we were performing, we relived July 11th, 1999,” she said. READ MORE

Himanshu Arora will be seen playing Major Rajiv Kapur in Shershaah. The actor shared a picture on his Instagram account, which left his wife and actor Amruta Khanvilkar all lovestruck. As soon as he shared the picture, Amruta called Himanshu her "hero."

Vishal Batra, twin brother of Paramvir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra, opened up about Bollywood movie Shershaah. He said it was not easy for him and his family to watch his brother's story being created. Shershaah, which is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video, recounts Vikram's story of courage and valour during Kargil War. "I have to say it is not easy watching his story being recreated. Not a day has passed since his going away 22 years when we in our family don’t remember him. To talk about him is still very very painful. The pain cannot be described. Reliving the memory of his loss every day is not easy," Vishal told Bollywood Hungama.

For Pranay Pachauri, being a part of Shershaah was nothing less than a dream come true. Introducing his character in the film, Pranay wrote on Instagram, "It was an honour and a dream to be able to experience , to live , to portray a soldiers life , to play my character (not yet revealing the name) can’t wait for all of you to see the film and take you on this Journey of Courage , Sacrifice and Bravery of our soldiers , of what it took to Win , Save and Defend our Nation."

As Shershaah is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video, Nikentan Dheer shared a BTS photo from the sets of the film and introduced his character. He wrote, "An absolute honour to be a part of #shershaah and to be playing Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia..we need your blessings!"

Vicky Kaushal wrote an emotional post on Instagram after watching Shershaah. "Loved the film. The valour and sacrifice of Capt Batra had me in tears. Salute to all the bravehearts. Kudos to the entire team of Shershaah. Sidharth, you have had a long journey with the film, and it's all so wroth it. You are absolutely smashing brother. And Kiara, tum toh yaar rula kar hi manogi. So so good. Must watch... kyunki - Yeh Dil Maange More," he wrote.

Sidharth Malhotra, who plays Vikram Batra in Shershaah, said the story is "close to my heart." Talking about the experience of working on the film, he said, "It was an honour to live the life of this brave heart and re-create his journey."

Actor Jaey Gajera saud that Shershaah is "brilliant" and "thrilling." On Twitter, he wrote, "Cinematography is amazing with promising performances. Shershaaah is a blend of action, thrill and romance."

Katrina Kaif is all praise for Shershaah. She took to her Instagram stories and wrote, "Love the film - such a beautiful story so well told. Sidharth Malhotra, you just hold the screen. Such a heartfelt performance. Kiara Advani is absolutely stunning and pitch perfect."

Producer Amar Bhutala posted on Twitter, "Finally watched a movie on the BIG screen and it was well worth the wait! #shershaah is fantastic!The story of #vikrambatra is told with grit and valour! @SidMalhotra you are FANTASTIC!
