Sharmila Tagore didn’t make eye contact with Kunal Kemmu in their first meeting: ‘Yeh toh job interview jaisa hai’

Kunal said that she was reading a magazine when they met properly for the first time. “She was looking at this magazine so she said hello and I said hello,” he recalled. and then enacted how Sharmila addressed him without looking up from her magazine. “So what do you do? What films have you done? Where are you from actually? So, 15 minutes have passed and I haven’t got eye contact. And I am literally sweating and saying, ‘yeh toh job interview jaisa lag raha hai. Mujhe naukri milegi ya nahi?’ (It feels like a job interview. Will I get the job or not?) Matlab itna toh main film set pe bhi nahi nervous tha. (I wasn’t this nervous on the film set also.)

Kunal said that he kept looking at Soha for a sign. “Aur main usko look de raha tha ki yeh normal hai? (I was giving her a look saying is this normal?) That was the first time,” he shared with a laugh. Kunal said that Sharmila “slowly warmed up” to him and they further connected while cooking in London. “I love to cook and she loves to cook and she is a great cook. She saw me chopping onions and she asked me ‘what are you making?’ I said dal and I asked and she said she is making gobhi. So we were like ‘okay, let’s make it together’. And we kind of connected on that. After that, we have been great. After that she has not looked away from me,” he shared.

Soha and Kunal got married in 2015.
