Shah Rukh Khan would ‘look at me and think of Gauri Khan’ during Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, reveals Suchitra Krishnamoorthi: ‘That’s why his expressions are so real’
Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Shah Rukh Khan starred in the 1994 film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. At the time, SRK was newly married to Gauri Khan.

Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Suchitra Krishnamoorthy as Sunil and Anna painted a convincing picture in the 1994 hit Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. However, Suchitra thinks that Shah Rukh could bring his A-game to the character because he would think of his wife Gauri Khan while delivering romantic dialogues to her.
Shah Rukh and Gauri got married in 1991. The actor soon resumed work and got back to his films. In Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, he played the role of Sunil, an optimistic and naive guy who falls in love with a girl and tries every trick in the book to win her. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Suchitra shared that Gauri would often come on the set of the film and she would end up talking more to Gauri than with Shah Rukh.
“I used to mainly talk to Gauri, I don’t think I spoke much to Shah Rukh,” Suchitra said. The actor added, “When Shah Rukh was doing Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, wo mujhe nahi dekh rahe the, wo Gauri ko dekh rahe the. Isiliye wo expressions sab itna masoom, itna real tha..it was all so real. (He wasn’t looking at me, he was looking at Gauri. That’s why his expressions are so innocent, so real.)”
She added, “So I think he would just look at me and think that he is looking at Gauri because unki nayi nayi shaadi hui thi… (he was newly married) so yeah that’s what brought out the innocence and that earnestness.”
In February earlier this year, Shah Rukh revisited his role on the occasion of film’s release anniversary. He tweeted, “At that stage…in that age…..raw….uncontrolled…craft still undefined….surrounded by the best cast & crew in India and a director who I miss every day! Taught me that sometimes u lose the moment….but win everything else…I am sure somewhere, some world Sunil did too!” he tweeted.”
Shah Rukh’s next film Jawan is set to release on September 7. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and is directed by Atlee.
