Earlier today, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar took to social media to quell all speculations surrounding Don 3. In a short video announcement, he confirmed the film’s existence but remained tight-lipped about the cast. However, just four hours later, Farhan has shared another significant update, revealing that Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the iconic character in Don and Don 2, will not be part of the upcoming project.
While Farhan didn’t disclose the new actor’s identity who will step in to play the iconic character, he expressed immense excitement about his versatility and talent. “The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. A new era of Don begins in 2025. Watch this space,” the statement concluded.
Reports stating that Ranveer Singh will replace Shah Rukh Khan in Don 3 have been circulating, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani acquired the rights of the original 1978 film Don, led by Amitabh Bachchan, and remade it with Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the lead roles. The first ‘Don’ film was released in 2006, followed by the second installment in 2011.
