(Express file photo by Prashant Nadkar) Bollywood’s Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan has always been open about his vulnerability and has fearlessly expressed his battles with loneliness in the public eye. The actor has, on several occasions, stated that it’s lonely at the top.
Recently, an old interview of the actor resurfaced and went viral on social media, where he passionately delved into the depths of his feelings of loneliness, particularly prior to stepping onto the stage for a performance.
“I walk up to the steps, I go and I play this. I am very emotional. I think of only things which are very permanent. But I think I know somewhere this is very transitory. But I am just enjoying the fact that people are screaming and there are so many flowers coming and I am the King Khan,” he said.
“At the moment, before I walk on, I do think a lot about my mother and father… As a matter of fact, I think of my children also and my friends… I feel very lonely in that one moment. I get tears in my eyes. When I am sitting on the stairs, I get very sad. I don’t know why. I just get very sad. I don’t even think it’s that I wish they were here… I think I realised deep down inside it’s not permanent and that makes me sad. So, I think of my mom and all the good things which will remain with me except my stardom,” Khan added.
Shah Rukh Khan, who has previously stated that he does feel “lonely at times”, has also said that his head does become busy with a lot of thoughts. “I just live with it. It makes you a little lonely, makes you a little sad. No, I don’t even go on a little roof and scream out, I have no venting for my personal issues and emotions except for the fact that I am an actor,” Shah Rukh said during an interview with IANS in 2016.
SRK, who was last seen in Siddharth Anand’s global hit Pathaan, is now gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated action thriller film Jawan directed by Atlee. The film will hit screens on September 7.
The actor will also make a cameo appearance in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, following which he will return in the lead role in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
