The passing away of veteran actor Satish Shah has come as a shock to his family and industry friends. To honour his legacy and remember his contributions, Shah’s family and friends organised a prayer meet in Mumbai on Monday to pay tribute to the late actor. Shah, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and memorable performances over decades, passed away on Saturday at the age of 74.

At the prayer meet, Satish’s wife Madhu Shah made a rare appearance amid her battle with the Alzheimer’s disease. Satish’s co-star and friend Sachin Pilgaonkar had revealed that he underwent a kidney transplant to extend his life in order to take care of his ailing wife. Satish died of kidney failure last Saturday.

Satish’s TV family and the team behind his popular sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai — actors Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, Rupali Ganguly, and Deven Bhojani, producer JD Majethia, and writer Aatish Kapadia — were seen escorting Madhu Shah to the venue. As Madhu exited the venue after the prayer meet, Rupali was seen requesting the paparazzi with folded hands to not click her. She assured them that while the rest of them would be staying back, it’d be insensitive to click Madhu’s pictures and videos.

In an emotional moment shared by actor Aanjjan Srivasatav, singer Sonu Nigam crooned Satish’s favourite song “Tere Mere Sapne” from Vijay Anand’s 1965 cult romantic film Guide to Madhu. She even sang along with Sonu when the singer prompted her to join her. “This beautiful gesture by @sonunigamofficial made Satish’s memorial so beautiful. Truly this was a celeb of his life. But this moment stays in my heart forever. Singing to Madhu Bhabhi – Satish’s most favourite song. Also reminding thht music binds and can heal. And do so much. And likewise remembering what a melody master Satish himself was (red heart and pink flower emojis),” Srivastav wrote in the caption.

Sonu wasn’t the only one singing at Satish Shah’s prayer meet. His Sarabhai team also recreated the viral moment from his Sunday funeral by singing the Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai opening theme together. That was a ritual for the entire cast and team whenever they got together ever since their show wrapped up in 2017.
