Satish Shah reveals Kundan Shah made every actor pay for premiere tickets of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, says they found the film ‘unfunny’
In a recent interview, Satish Shah spoke about Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and how the team did not find the film funny while shooting for it.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro continues to be one of the most loved films by cinephiles. Directed by Kundan, the black comedy stars Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Kapur and Neena Gupta among others. Released in 1983, the film is a benchmark in Indian cinema and regularly lands on best films’ lists. However, actor Satish Shah recently revealed that the actors never found the film funny while they were shooting, and went along with the conviction of director Kundan Shah.
While speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the actor said that people loved the film and find it funny. “But we found it so unfunny while filming it. Kisi ko hasi nahi aarahi thi (No one was laughing). We were like what are we even doing? Only Kundan found it hilarious and fun and we just went with his conviction,” he said. The Sarabhai vs Sarabhai actor shared that later they did crack up while watching the film. He added that given they knew about the back stories behind each scene, it made it more hilarious to watch.
That’s not all, Satish Shah made another revelation of how every actor had to buy the tickets for the premiere of the film. Talking about how after the screening, he experienced his first ‘recognition’ moment, the actor said, “The film was made with a budget of Rs 8 lakh. While it had its own fate, I remember how Kundan made each one of us buy tickets for the premiere.”
About his big moment, he shared how he was standing at the Old Metro cinema hall after the premiere when former journalist Bharti Pradhan came up to him. “She said you were fantastic, what’s your name? That was my first recognition and a big high for me,” he remembered with a broad smile.
Satish Shah will next be seen in United Kacche, which also stars Sunil Grover, Sapna Pabbi among others.
