Bollywood actor Sameera Reddy stepped away from the film industry to focus on family life. However, she soon found herself at the centre of trolling when she gained weight during and after her pregnancy. In a recent interaction, Sameera recalled feeling hurt and depressed when people would openly point out her weight gain without any consideration.

Speaking to Zoom, she said, “After I gave birth, I put on so much weight because I was pumped with hormones. I had a rough time emotionally dealing with postpartum at that time. In the beginning, I was affected because I myself was confused. I went from absolutely slim to 105 kg.”

Sameera pointed out that people aren’t considerate towards new moms and shared how even a vegetable seller wouldn’t shy away from commenting on her weight gain. “I remember being mad, depressed. People are not nice. If they want to say something, they say it on your face. I always say the bhajiwala also did not spare me and would say, ‘kya hogaeya apko?’. Nobody will understand at that moment what you are going through. So I am not going to lie and say it didn’t hurt me,” she said.

In an earlier interaction with indianexpress.com, Sameera had opened up about her fitness journey and how she realised that crash diets aren’t sustainable, stressing that consistency is key. “At 46, I realise that extreme diets and yo-yo weight loss aren’t the solution. My priorities now are building strength, managing my fitness levels over the long run, feeling strong and confident rather than just trying to be skinny,” she said. “No matter how hectic life gets, I make sure to prioritise my workouts,” she added.

Sameera tied the knot with husband Akshai Varde in 2014. The couple were blessed with two children: son Hans in 2015 and daughter Nyra in 2019. On the work front, Sameera was last seen in Varadhanayaka in 2013. She is now set to return to acting with her comeback film, Chimni, a horror-thriller scheduled for a 2025 release.
