When Rani Mukerji asked Parineeti Chopra ‘You are Priyanka Chopra’s cousin, why aren’t you an actor?’: ‘You will be a great actress’
When Parineeti Chopra appeared on Koffee With Karan in 2014, she told Karan Johar how her journey as an actor began and everything changed for her on the day she proxied for Rani Mukerji's manager.

Actor Parineeti Chopra started her journey in the Hindi film industry in 2011 with the movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl but at one point in her life, Parineeti had no plans of becoming an actor and had only started working at Yash Raj Films in the hope of joining the production house’s accounts department. Parineeti comes from a strong academic background with a triple Honours degree in business, finance and economics from the Manchester Business School. But actor Rani Mukerji changed Parineeti’s train of thought and motivated her to become an actor.
When Parineeti appeared on Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan in 2014, she told the filmmaker how her life changed when she accompanied Rani Mukerji on the sets of Bigg Boss. Parineeti recalled that she was filling in for Rani’s manager as her manager was unavailable that day.
Parineeti said, “It all changed within one day. I remember I was managing Rani (Mukerji). I was a backup manager since her manager was busy with some other actor. I was managing her on the set of Bigg Boss and she said that day, ‘You are Priyanka’s cousin, why aren’t you an actor?’ I said, ‘No ma’am, I don’t want to be an actor etc etc…’ But she said you will be a great actress if you become an actress.”
The next day, Parineeti was sent to casting director Shanoo Sharma’s house by filmmaker Maneesh Sharma, who she was speculated to be dating at the time. Shanoo Sharma shot an audition clip of Parineeti in which she performed a scene from Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s Jab We Met.
“I thought she (Shanoo) is keeping the video for her bank. I didn’t hear from her for a month and a half,” shared Parineeti, who had by then decided to leave her job at YRF and focus on working on her acting skills. The actor added, “I left the job and I started looking for acting schools. Then one day, Maneesh called me to the Yash Raj office and told me, ‘Congratulations, you are signing a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films.'”
After bagging the ‘three-film deal’ with YRF, many assumed that Parineeti got it because of her relationship with Maneesh Sharma. Clearing the air about the same, Parineeti said, “I find it cheap when people say you got the film because you are going out with Maneesh or you are in a relationship with him. For me, he is like Adi (Aditya Chopra). I have so much respect for both of them. They have given me my whole life. If I can buy a car today, it is because of them.”
However, when Parineeti gave her first shot in Ladies Vs Ricky Behl, she thought she has been an actor all her life. Recalling her first shot, she had earlier told Vogue, “Maneesh said ‘action’, I did the shot, and he said ‘cut’. And I immediately knew I could do this. I felt like it was my 30th film. Maybe because I was so excited, it overtook all other emotions.”
Parineeti Chopra, who was last seen in the 2022 film Uunchai, will be getting engaged to boyfriend and AAP leader Raghav Chadha in Delhi on Saturday.
